Then With The Hands

I recently came across this three part series that a gym owner in my mentoring group put together.  Although I wanted to capture his message in my own words so that you could hear it from me, I could not find a way to say it better than Brett Moore from Eximo CrossFit did.  Because we share the same mentor, I too went through the exercises he recommends and feel the lessons learned and clarity gained are too great not to share.  Enjoy this series and be certain that all of Brett’s sentiments and calls to action are coming from me too.

The last part of this motto is where the rubber meets the road. In a nutshell, knowledge without action is useless. Knowledge is power right? No, knowledge is only potential power. It’s up to you to do something with it. In one of Jim Rohn’s books, he states:  “Don’t let your learning lead to knowledge. Let your learning lead to action.” What does that mean? I’ll explain.Knowledge is critical for success (the head). Care is the channel through which knowledge flows (the heart). But without action (the hands), nothing happens. If you’ve been following this 3 part series, we’ve touched on some pretty important information about how to set yourself and others up for a path to true happiness. Armed with that knowledge, you have two choices.

  1. Do nothing with it and see no change in your current situation.
  2. Utilize that knowledge and take ACTION.

Now obviously the right answer is #2, but this is where a lot of people fall short. Often people are full of amazing ideas, but they don’t know how to see those ideas through, and those great ideas get left by the wayside. The critical part here is to figure out a way to take the first step. Keep in mind too that the first step doesn’t have to be a big one! Baby steps are still steps in the right direction. It may not be perfect, and you may make some mistakes along the way, but that’s OK!

Here’s a quick example:

If part of your perfect day is to spend more time with your family, and in order to do that you need to re-prioritize your daily schedule to accommodate the time needed to do so, you can start by going over your perfect day exercise (more info on that here) and eliminate one thing in your schedule that does not fit in your perfect day. After a week or so goes by, eliminate another, and after another week or two, another, and so on. Soon enough you’ll have an abundance of free time you can fill with items or activities that truly mean something to you and those around you. But remember, none of this will be possible unless you take action NOW.

Your challenge today is to find one thing you can eliminate from your day that is a drain on your happiness and replace it with something that’s meaningful to you. Don’t just think about replacing it, actually do it. I repeat, ACTUALLY DO IT.

Don’t wait until another year goes by and your still in the same spot you are now. Take action. Capture your dreams. Live your perfect day. Do it for your loved ones. Do it for you.
