Biography

Julie is a San Antonio transplant from Plano, Texas. After high school, she earned a bachelor’s degree in Nutritional Science from Texas A&M University in 2002 (Whoop) but decided to pursue a teaching career shortly after. Since then she has been teaching various science courses at the high school level since 2004.

Growing up, Julie was very active in the sports arena, playing volleyball, basketball, and running track, but her ultimate passion was soccer. She played both club soccer as well as high school, and continues to play for an adult co-ed league here in San Antonio.

Although Julie continued to stay active by running, attending various fitness classes, and lifting weights, she was not seeing any progress in her fitness goals. It wasn’t until she discovered a class at her local gym that was based on the CrossFit format that she started to see the changes she needed. In 2017, Julie became a CrossFit Level 1 Trainer and has since been coaching classes at her local gym.  Wanting to gain more knowledge and experience in the methodology of CrossFit, she joined Alamo City CrossFit in November of 2018 and has developed a deeper passion for CrossFit.

“What I love about CrossFit is that it pushes your limits, allowing you to accomplish things you never thought you were able to achieve before.  The intensity of each workout is more than I would be able to achieve if exercising alone. The class environment along with a knowledgeable coach helps to push me to new heights. The hour spent at a CrossFit gym is much more effective and efficient than mindlessly wandering around the gym trying to decide what to do next, or figuring out complicated machines…that used to be me. This IS my happy hour! I love the environment and the community that we have here at our gym and I’m excited to share my passion for it with others! My favorite quote says, “if it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you” which can be true both inside the gym and throughout other aspects of our life!”

Julie is married to her husband, Reed, since 2006 and together they have two kids: their daughter Bo and son Wade, along with their fur baby, Nell, the wiener dog. Outside the gym, she enjoys spending time with friends and family, as long as there is food, of course!
